2001 Entrepreneur of the Year Awards - igourmet Founder and CEO Spencer Chesman
"A MOVEABLE FEAST -- You're just clicks away from preparing a gourmet holiday spread. Here's where to find the finest sweets and savories online...The best general gourmet food site is igourmet.com. Styled as the Amazon of gourmet food - it even has tabs marking different categories, from meats to coffee to sauces - it is incredibly easy to use. Every section is well-stocked, but igourmet's cheese selection is inspired...The product descriptions are worthy of Cervantes - literally. You'll learn that the grasses, shrubs and wild herbs eaten by the sheep of La Mancha give Manchego cheese its distinctive flavor. The site also has one feature that Amazon ought to copy - a pop-up shipping calculator that lets you compare the prices for different shipping options to your ZIP code." 12/01
"This Westchester-based dot-com food company is thriving in the $40 billion U.S. specialty-food industry. Despite concerns about the homogenization of world cuisines and harm to stressed ecosystems due to global demand, the Internet, refrigerated air freight and the growing global economy have created a boom, which has mushroomed (no pun intended) by one-third since the early 1990s."

"This site fulfills the potential of the Web. There are a variety of food baskets available, but the stellar feature, which puts igourmet ahead of the cybercurve, is that you can create your own gift basket." Dec 2000/ Jan 2001
"I went to igourmet.com, where someone I met at a party had good experiences. I soon saw why. The site seemed to do everything right. It was well designed and easy to navigate, and it provided a photo of every cheese with a description of its flavor, recipes, serving and wine-pairing suggestions, and in some cases history.
It provided detailed information about shipping times — I could get my order by Thursday — and it let me give them a "need-by" date. It also let me calculate my shipping costs by entering my ZIP code, before checking out. When it came time to enter credit card information, it provided a toll-free phone number I could call if problems arose.
The only downside: After I placed the order, the confirmation screen lasted only about a second before flipping back to igourmet's front page — so fast I barely saw it. Though it was easy to go back and check on the order, it was a little disconcerting not knowing immediately if it had gone through.
But after wasting half the afternoon shopping for wine, buying cheese from igourmet was a piece of cake. 12/00
"…Although the emphasis here is on cheese, it’s obvious that the site is intent on becoming the Amazon.com of the food world. The clarity and simplicity of this site make it a joy to navigate. " 9/11/00 Click here
