While Riesling holds great status in Europe, it is only recently that Americans have come to enjoy its fruity acidity, and truly appreciate its value at the dinner table. The same is true with Rieslings' incredible affinity to cheese. We have hand-picked the following cheeses to complement our favorite Rieslings.
  • Racuhkase: Germany is the original home to the Riesling grape, making it a must to include a fine German cheese in this assortment. Rauchkase is aged for 30 days, then gently smoked using a technique that dates back to early times. Inside its polished, edible brown rind, Rauchkase has a creamy, buttery, smoky flavor that ranges from mild to piquant.
  • Matured to perfection, Gruyere de Comte Black Label Reserve (8 oz.) has been produced since the reign of Charlemagne, when there were no separate entities named France and Switzerland. Contributing to raw-milk ComtĂ©'s unique flavor, morning and evening milkings are mingled before the cheese making process. The wheels are aged for a full year, resulting in a sweet and nutty masterpiece. (8 oz)
  • An aged sheep's milk product from Crotone, Crotonese is one of southern Italy's signature cheeses. Firm in texture with a slightly tangy, lemony flavor, this cheese is best served with the meal; either before as an hors d'oeuvre, or after as part of a dessert course.

Comments about Riesling Cheese Assortment:

My turn hosting our wine club. I knew I was serving some spicy Thai dishes (yum) but was lost on cheeses. Thsi assortment was perfect, each cheese bringing out a different quality of the wine. Everybody had their own favorites, though the smoky rauchkase was undeniably the most popular. Fun assortment, and typical high quality cheeses.

Of the 3 cheeses the Emmanthal is okay.Nothing sensational.

The Spanish had a mold spot and is bitter.

The third one I have not opened yet.
