St. Francis Winery & Vineyards is located in the heart of Sonoma Valley. They produce bold flavored, fruit forward and full-bodied wines that have gained global recognition. These pairings were just featured at the Master Class tasting series at Bloomingdale's. St. Francis heritage in Sonoma County dates back to its roots as a premium grape grower in the early 1970's and since then has committed to producing superior quality wines. St. Francis was recently named “International Red Wine Maker of the Year” by the London International Wine Challenge. After a rigorous tasting, we found that each of these cheeses complemented these 3 St. Francis wines:
  • Vella Special Select Dry Monterey Jack: Since 1931, one of the U.S.A.'s great cheeses. Sweet and nutty in flavor with hints of cocoa and pepper. (8 oz.) Pair with St. Francis Zinfandel..
  • Crater Lake Blue: Gold Medal winning blue cheese from the Rogue Valley Creamery in Oregon. Robust and sweet with a rich buttery finish. (8 oz.) Pair with St. Francis Cabernet Sauvignon..
  • San Joaquin Gold: A new artisan cheese made by Fiscalini Farms of Modesto, California. It is semi-hard with a natural rind and a sweet, salty, buttery taste. (8 oz.) Pair with St. Francis Syrah.

Comments about igourmet Cheeses for the Wines of St. Francis Winery:

The Berkshire Blue was excellent; good flavor without being overpowering. The other two were hard to distinguish between them and were not complementary to the wines, although all were billed as red-wine friendly.
