Located in:Cheese, ALL Sharp
This wonderful goat's milk cheese from Poitou in the Loire Valley comes to us in handcrafted wooden crates containing two four pound logs of the most exquisite chevre we have ever tasted! Each Buche de Chevre is aged for two months, during which time it develops a hard, edible crust complete with a bloomy white mold coating. It is sharp and tangy near the rind and gets progressively richer and creamier toward the center. When enjoying this cheese, you savor a delightful combination of flavors and textures in each bite. Buche de Chevre is a true delicacy that begs for a warm, crusty French baguette and a glass of robust red wine from neighboring Bordeaux.
  • Made from pasteurized goat's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 3.85 lb form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the 8 ounce wedge.
  • Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form.

A slice provides an after-bite from the rind that accentuates the palate pleasing creamy-ness of this cheese. Excellent on a crusty rustic bread topped by a sprig of fresh herb. The delicious "heart" of the cheese makes for a simple, but delightful crudite or tea sandwich spread with watercress, etc.

I used this as a complement to fresh cherry tomatoes as an appetizer, but my favorite use is to put a dollop inside a small fresh fig. I bought a second one to give to a friend for her birthday, and both she and her husband called to say they loved it.

Not all chevre is created equal. This little gem will please your palate with its bright, lively, fresh blooming flavor. A spreadable, rather than crumbly texture begs for one more taste. If goat cheeses are to your liking, it's time to find a best friend.

Ah! Chèvre!
By EdwardVerified Reviewer from Palm Springs, Ca on 2/22/2007
Pros:
OK, but
Cons:
A little dry
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

The chèvre log I received was too big, even for a Christmas party of 16 people who ate most of it, and it seemed a bit too dry in comparison with other smaller goat cheeses I've enjoyed here in the States and in la belle France over the years.

We have travelled extensively in France, and have taste tested many cheeses. Of course, we have our favorites. Chevre being one of them, this is by far the best we've tasted in the United States.
