The King Island Dairy gets its name from the island of the same name. King Island is situated south of Melbourne at the Western end of Bass Strait. This tiny speck in the Great Southern Ocean is among the few remains of the land bridge that once linked Tasmania to the Australian mainland and is also the home to one of the best cheese producing companies in the world. One of their cheeses is Stokes Point Smoked Cheddar. This cheddar is made in the traditional way, matured for nine months and then smoked with Tasmanian hardwood. Its beautiful, edible golden rind, created during smoking, has a rich, smoky flavor and also acts as a natural preservative.

the tast of Stokes point smoked chedder is simply amazing. I first tasted it when our son sent it as a gift( through iGourmet). Then, having discovered how great it is I/we have bought it several times, most recently as a birthday gift for my wife, who loves it equally, On this occasion, As we shared it, I was careful to analyze exactly what makes it so good: first, it is a very good chedder( very slightly crumbly and slightly tangy, but the really unique characteristic is the smoke flavor, which is unlike any other smoke I have ever tasted. If you smoked a log that way, it would be tasty

I loved the smoked flavour of this cheese. It is great with crackers or melted on a sandwich. I would definitely buy this cheese again.
