Located in: Cheese, Austria
A delicacy originally from the Gruyere district of Switzerland, Gruyere is best known as a key fondue ingredient. This Austrian version offers all you'd expect in an Alpine Gruyere. It is delightfully nutty, spicy, full-flavored, and aromatic when melted. A whole wheel weighs approximately 80 pounds, and it takes over 700 pounds of milk to make a single wheel. We recommend this cheese be diced into salads, melted in a hot sandwich, or blended into a piping-hot pot of cheese fondue.
  • Made from pasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 80 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the 1/2 pound.
  • Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form.

Comments about Austrian Alps Gruyere:

I have never tried this cheese. Decided to add it to my order from igourmet and I wasn't disappointed. I have heard of this type of cheese from recipes on the FoodNetwork. I tried it with nothing on it and not in anything - just as a snack. I could have eaten the whole thing.

Comments about Austrian Alps Gruyere:

We tried the Austrian Gruyere hoping that like many "Swiss" cheese not from Switzerland, it will have the same flavor profile. This cheese lacks the real aged Gruyere taste. It is very mild [...] It is good for fondue if you blend it with stronger cheeses and melts well on sandwiches and gratin dishes. If you prefer mild cheeses, you will like this one.
