Located in: Cheese, Belgium
Creamy and rich, as a goat cheese should be, Capra Goat is aged for only a few weeks, so it is firm enough to slice but creamy enough to spread. This chevre comes from the mountainous Walloon-speaking region in the south, a place where goats graze on herbs and grasses in the rugged hills of the Ardennes. In the best-selling Honey flavor, the addition of a drop of sweet Belgian "liquid gold" gives the cheese a hint of sugar that is extremely pleasing to the palate. Importantly, its sweet side tempers the delightful tanginess inherent in all goat cheeses. Also available coated in Wild Herbs, this mild, smooth, refreshing cheese is fast becoming one of our favorites. Varieties sold separately.
  • Made from pasteurized goat's milk.
  • Whole form is 11.5 ounces.

Just finished an amazing artichoke ravioli dinner followed by the most luscious dessert. I must share this one. Slice a croissant in half and top with the Capra Goat Cheese with Honey. Do melt. Then, place a scoop of Haagen-Dazs Fleur de Sel Caramel ice cream on top. Absolutely delicious!

Comments about Capra Goat:

The quote "I do NEED some honey goat" is from my 3 year old who LOVES this cheese. We were sitting eating supper when he made his request know. Sadly, we had no honey goat in the house. This is very balanced, not too sweet and not to "goaty" for those who are shy. Try it, you'll love it!

Mmmmmm ... honey
By AllisonVerified Reviewer from Broomfield, CO on 3/6/2007
Pros:
Buttery flavor, Creamy, Delicate, Firm, Flavorful, Rich
Best Uses:
After Dinner, Hor d'oevre
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Capra Goat:

Honey flavor: This stuff is delicious! It reminds me of honey butter or honey schmear at the bagel store, so we're not talking about a high-brow cheese for elitists. This would appeal to everyone. I like that it's not too sweet and that the honey flavor comes through, rather than just sweetness. This is firm and crumbly; it is not a spread.

If you put this out for guests it'll be the first cheese gone, no matter what you put next to it.

Subtle Sweetness

Best Uses:
Hor d'oevre
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Capra Goat:

I typically love hard, aged, strong flavored cheeses. This cheese is very different from my normal taste. It is a fairly easy to spread, classic goat cheese texture with a the flavor you'd expect from a good goat cheese. The characteristic that separates the capra goat from all the rest is the subtle sweet honey taste that closely follows the tangy goat flavor. Your first bite confuses your taste buds. The next sample (which follows closely) allows you to fully appreciate the complexity. [...]
