Many of us are familiar with feta as the white, slightly salty cheese that is crumbled into Greek salads in 24-hour diners across America. Feta is truly a great cheese for salads, but it is also a delicious table cheese that should not be overlooked. Feta is Greek for "slice" because feta is made in very large blocks, then sliced. A saltwater brine is then poured over the pieces to arrest the ripening process. Feta is sold in jars, tins or tubs, submersed in its brine in order to keep it young and fresh.

Tangra Bulgarian Feta, also known as Brindza, is made from pure sheep's milk from free-grazing ewes in the Rhodope Mountains. The name Tangra comes from ancient Bulgarian mythology, in which a deity named Tangra protected animals and promoted agriculture. Both creamy and crumbly, and not too salty, we are sure you will find it to be one of the best fetas you have ever eaten.

  • Made from pasteurized sheep's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 14 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the 1/2 pound.
  • Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form.

Comments about Bulgarian Feta:

It's good, but it doesn't knock my socks off. I am a huge fan of Valbreso French Feta and have not tasted anything that comes close. This is a good basic Feta, but it won't bowl you over.

I have been one of your customers for a very long time. I have Never been disappointed in your products, [...] or your your advertising, However, and I repeat myself here! I do take issue with the size of the offerings. We are a family of two, 85 year olds, with an innate inability to eat much cheese at any one sitting. We of course could go all the way to Syracuse and buy what ever small amt we wish. But unfortunately, Syr. is 50 miles away. Get the picture??Roger [@]

Creamy, Flavorful, Pungent, Tart
Best Uses:
Salads

Comments about Bulgarian Feta:

This is an unusually tart feta, so how much you like it will be pretty dependant on your personal tastes. I thought it was just okay, while my husband (who loves sour flavors) liked it more. It is creamier than supermarket feta, which is certainly in its favor.

Drain & marinate in extra virgin olive oil & crushed oregano or your favorite herb. we love it with crusty italian bread and wine as an appetizer.

A More Mellow Feta

Pros:
Creamy, Delicate, Flavorful, Rich
Best Uses:
Hor d'oevre, In cooking, In Greek recipes

Comments about Bulgarian Feta:

This is a more mellow feta, without the harsh bite that some feta can have. It is wonderful in spanakopita and other Greek dishes calling for feta. This also is great to eat on its own and to crumble on salads.

Pros:
Great flavor, Not too salty, Rich
Best Uses:
Salads
Bottom Line:

Comments about Bulgarian Feta:

I have tried a lot of different Feta cheeses and this is the best yet. It was fantastic when we first tried it and it has retained that fresh taste even after several months storage (tupperware in refrigerator). If you like Greek salads then this is a cheese you need to try.

sometimes FETA is wery solty and the salt taste owerpowwer the milky taste. In this case you have really fresh cheese, not stored in a brine for long.
