Located in: Cheese, England
This ancient cheese, like many other British classics, is dry and crumbly. It is made from rich, full-fat cow's milk and aged for only 60 days before it is packaged and sent across the Atlantic to our shores. With its dry texture, similar to a good cheddar, Crumbly Lancashire is excellent in salads or on an unsalted cracker. It is a mild, fresh-tasting cheese that is one of England's best kept secrets.
  • Made from pasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 9 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the 1/2 pound.

Comments about Crumbly Lancashire:

The texture is good but it has almost no flavor. I am very familiar with English cheeses, including Lancashire, and this is not a good example.

igourmet Response: I'd recommend the Butler's version for more oomph

Did not meet expectations. It was not crumbly and dry. It was rather firm and had a too sweet taste.

Comments about Crumbly Lancashire:

I cannot comment how prewar (WW-2) crumbly tasted but this was up to modern crumbly standards. Compared to the cheeses one can usually find in US supermarkets, it was very good.

Lancashire cheese is very difficult to find in my area (if not impossible). It happens to be my husband's favorite cheese, and I purchase it for him for special occasions. Of course, we may be enjoying more frequent special occasions as a result.
