Cheddar has been produced on farms in the county of Somerset in southwestern England for hundreds of years. Cheeses called "Cheddar" that come from anywhere other than Somerset and its neighboring counties are merely imposters.

The story of Coombe Farm began in 1942 when Andrew Warren started farming in partnership with W. H. Longman. Over the next thirty years, more farms were purchased as the business prospered. Mr. Warren's motivation in each case was to help someone start in farming and, by working alongside them, help them succeed by lending his knowledge and expertise. It was Mr. Warren's wish that when he died, a trust be created in order financially sustain his legacy of farmhouse Cheddar production. In 1983, the A. H. Warren Trust was formed, maintaining Mr. Warren's old-world standards at Coombe Farm.

The authentic English Cheddar produced on Coombe Farm by master cheesemaker Martyn Gosney is made from rich, local milk and aged for over 24 months in temperature controlled storage units. We find it to be of excellent quality; possessing all the great traits we've come to expect in a good cheddar - sharp, nutty and not overly dry.

Did not meet expectations after reading description... a mediocre cheddar at best (well for English, would be a champ if only compared to American cheeses).

I did not think it was a sharp cheddar. I have had cheddars that cost less that were much better.

I expected more from this. It is a decent cheddar, but in all honesty, it doesn't have that "wow" factor to it. I melted it for sandwiches and it was good, and was okay with wine as well. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, not because it is bad, per se, just that if you are going to buy "gourmet" cheese, this isn't the one to buy. You can get the same quality at the Stop & Shop.

One of the best true cheddars I've tried. Unlike mass-produced brands, this one is what good cheddar is all about. Delicious!!
