Located in:Cheese, England
White Stilton, the young, immature cousin to the world famous British blue cheese, is extra creamy and deliciously tangy, but somehow unfinished all by itself - much like plain yogurt. Hence the need to introduce a fruit. Available with apricots, lemon, ginger, and eight other wicked flavors. Each of these flavorful additions tames the brash White Stilton. After your first bite, you will immediately recognize that the combination is a natural fit. The expert cheesemakers have added exactly the right amount of fruit such that the cheese is not overly sweet. Aged for a minimal time period, our family of flavored White Stiltons are fresh tasting products. Owing to their delicious flavors, beautiful presentations and wickedly scrumptious names, they are among the best selling blended cheeses in the U.K.

I sliced it and put it on bread (french bread)
and put it under the broiler for just a couple of
minutes until the cheese melted slightly.

Also ate it on crusty bread alone. Both were
excellent.

Had the mango and ginger variety and loved it. Someone stated it was a bit crumbly, and it is...but it's somehow creamy too. Will buy this again, and also plan to try the lemon.

This flavor had so much fruit that it is very difficult to serve. It tends to crumble. The fruit seems to have been preserved somehow, and the taste seemed more like weak pineapple.

I've tried both the Pear/Apple and the Lemon; both were quite tasty. Another reviewer mentioned that the chunks of pear and apple are quite noticable in that flavor -- yes, but that's a GOOD thing. My only complaint is that fruity stilton doesn't keep well after opened. I'm the only cheese eater in my household, so I usually buy this for parties, where it is always well received. Or for comfort food on a cold winter's night at home, gently melt some on fresh full-bodied bread ... mmmmmmm!

My wife fell in love with the Stilton with Mango & Ginger at a Texas wine event and we've ordered it twice (once a blueberry version was substituted). When we had it at the wine event it was paired with an Orange Muscat wine which really was a perfect match. I prefer wines that are less sweet, and I enjoy the Stilton with a variety of white wines just because the taste is so unique.

We were introduced to the Stilton with mango at a wine tasting, paired with Orange Muscat wine. More to my wife's taste but I enjoyed it as well. We took home a bottle of the wine and ordered the cheese. I had indicated it was OK to substitute if they did not have the mango and we received the Stilton with Blackberry (which happens to be my wife's favorite berry). We enjoyed it very much when we tried it, but enjoyed the texture of the Mango version more (the blueberry had a skin effect). The cheese has (to me) the texture of New York Cheesecake, and we love it on our wine and cheese weekends together :-)

This is a fabulous cheese. I have shared with friends and now they are hooked too. The delicate sweet flavor of the fruit perfectly compliments the cheese. Makes a delicious snack on a simple cracker, and post-dinner it is wonderful with a light dessert wine.

Supermarket cheese

Kind of boring

This is not a fine cheese; it is the Velveeta of Stiltons, and really shouldn't bear that name. I don't hate it - it's just boring and bland, factory made cheese. You can do better for not much more, or about the same price. For example, Fourme d'Ambert usually costs a little less, and is in a whole different league from this cheese. Eat the Fourme d'Ambert (or Cashel Blue, or even a mature cheddar) with a ripe pear or crisp apple; spread some mango chutney on a hunk of French bread, and alternate it with bites of the aforementioned cheese. THEN you'll have a real cheese worthy of mention and notice. This is not to say that [...] sells the stilton-fruit cheeses in a bad condition. And there are lots of people who like this. Just understand that this is not an artisanal or handmade cheese - it's made in a factory and by the millions of pounds. I just think that cheese-lovers can do better than to bother with it.

Fresh and delicious
By AllisonVerified Reviewer from Broomfield, CO on 3/9/2007
Pros:
Delicate, Flavorful
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

These cheeses are fresh and lightly tangy. They are nothing like blue Stilton.

Apricot: This one's not sweet at all, the dried apricots are California-style, not Turkish (ie, sharp and tangy rather than soft and sweet).

Mango: Significantly sweeter than apricot, and the mango flavor permeates the cheese.

Lemon: This is flavored with candied lemon rind and it tastes very special -- it's fresh and bright. Don't miss this one.

Apple and Pear: More dense with fruit than the others. Great flavor, but the dried apples are spongy and the dried pears are grainy.

Pros:
Firm, Flavorful
Best Uses:
After Dinner, Hor d'oevre, Salads
Bottom Line:

I love the freshness of the fruit flavors. The lemon and orange are particularly great - really a fruity tang to complement the rich, crumbly cheese. I also like the ginger. They are great for eating alone, but the fruit stiltons are also good on a pear/walnut salad (for those of us who don't like the blue cheeses, the fruit gives the extra punch!)

Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Best Uses:
May be used as a dessert
Bottom Line:

Although I am not crazy about plain Stilton, theses fruit cheeses are incredible. There is a natural sweetness from the generous amount of fruit chopped in tiny pieces and mixed evenly through the cheese. It is great eaten with wine or as a dessert. I cannot choose a favorite flavor because they are all so good.
