This semi-soft sheep's milk cheese is handmade in the French Pyrenees. The Pyrenees Mountain range, a natural border that divides France and Spain, is populated by the Basques, a people who have their own customs and language. Although the Basques live on both sides of the border, they produce this cheese on the French side. Amidst the breathtaking, rolling mountains of the Pyrenees, vast pastures stretch as far as the eye can see, providing fertile grazing for milk-producing sheep. P'tit Basque, made from pure sheep's milk, has a slightly oily texture and an earthy, nutty flavor. It comes to us in a whole, uncut cylinder, offering a beautiful presentation as well as a lovely taste.

This has been a favorite cheese of ours since we were introduced to it by friends in Santa Fe. A consistent favorite when we serve it and it draws many positive comments as it is not well known.

Our favorite is to serve with fresh fruit and white wine as an hors d'oeuvre.

We keep a wheel on hand at all time, so we can enjoy it ourselves as well.

My wife and I love this cheese! We discovered it on a trip to Napa at the Oakville Grocery Store and have since ordered it [...] a couple of times. Goes great with Cabernet & Pinot and an excellent sliced sausage and crackers. Enjoy! You won't be disappointed!!

Several years ago, admid the wide variety of cheeses available at The Urban Harvest in Arlington Heights Illinois, from behind her counter Courtney declared Petit Basque her favorite cheese of all. And so it has become ours too. Everyone we share it with asks where to buy this cheese. Serve with grapes or other fruit and your choice of wine.
