Located in: Cheese, France
This semi-soft sheep's milk cheese is handmade in the French Pyrenees. The Pyrenees Mountain range, a natural border that divides France and Spain, is populated by the Basques, a people who have their own customs and language. Although the Basques live on both sides of the border, they produce this cheese on the French side. Amidst the breathtaking, rolling mountains of the Pyrenees, vast pastures stretch as far as the eye can see, providing fertile grazing for milk-producing sheep. P'tit Basque, made from pure sheep's milk, has a slightly oily texture and an earthy, nutty flavor. It comes to us in a whole, uncut cylinder, offering a beautiful presentation as well as a lovely taste.
  • Made from pasteurized sheep's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 1.25 pound form of cheese.

Comments about P'tit Basque:

This was a wonderful cheese to use on a cheese tray, as well as in combination with some other cheeses (and bread, olives, cornichon, prosciutto) for dinner. The cheese is complimented nicely when accompanied by a good quality syrah/shiraz.

It lasted longer than the recommended 7 days.

Comments about P'tit Basque:

We had this cheese in France, and it was one of our favorites there. Simple and a little rustic, but it is so smooth and buttery. Make sure it's as fresh as possible. In our experience when it gets too old, it looses its wonderful texture.

Comments about P'tit Basque:

I loved this cheese. I just cut it into chunks and ate it like that. I'm just sorry that I didn't buy a much larger quantity. This is now on my list of my favorite cheeses.

Comments about P'tit Basque:

Everyone loves this cheese. We eat it by the slice, with crackers or bread, with meat, and with fruit. It has a slightly salty taste and is firm. It is not a strong cheese.

Comments about P'tit Basque:

I first purchased this cheese from another vendor and fell in love with it. When I saw that igourmet carried it, I ordered three of these. The wheels I received were hard and dried out rather than semi-soft and creamy. Normally, I love this cheese, but not what I purchased from igourmet.
