Located in: Cheese, France
St. Agur is made in the village of Monts du Velay in the Auvergne region of France. Made from cow's milk and ripened for at least two months, this is a rich, creamy blue with a spicy blue flavor. Mild in flavor and not too salty in comparison to more traditional blues, St. Agur appeals to many palettes. Perfect spread on pear or apple slices, or just on some French bread or raisin bread. Because of its creamy nature, it melts well in sauces or just on top of chops.
  • Made from pasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 4.4 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the 1/2 pound.

This cheese has a unique flavor and quality unfound in other blues. I particularly like it as an appetizer with crackers and fruit. My friends also like it and it is always the first cheese to disappear from the plate. Also good in salads.

Comments about Saint Agur:

I first tried St. Agur at a wine tasting and was moved to purchase some from the vineyard! It is the best blue cheese I've ever tasted; buttery and sophisticated flavors, delicious on crackers and bread and when served with fruit. I have extolled its virtues to all my friends and family. One note: When I purchased it originally, I was instructed to periodically re-wrap it to keep it from further bluing. Fabulous cheese!

Comments about Saint Agur:

I am french and moved to the US 8 years ago. That's the cheese that I would ask my Mom to buy all the time when I was a kid. I just love it. It is like eating butter, but it has a very powerful taste. When we received it, my husband (american) tried it and thought it had been out of the fridge for a while, it was so strong! He loves it too now. If you want a mellower taste, spread some butter on your bread first. Talk about rich! The problem about it, it is not really adapted to a cheese platter, it is too overpowering. I don't care, that's the only one I want!

"Worlds best kept Blue Cheese Secret"
By John from Enterprise, Alabama on 2/25/2007
Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Cons:
none
Best Uses:
Best Blue CHeese in World, Spread on crackers, Supplement to Blue Cheese
Bottom Line:

Comments about Saint Agur:

The same quality and freshness as the St. Agur we enjoyed for the 14 years we were in Europe. The cheese spread on a cracker or to supplement your Blue Cheese Dressing Recipie left the same wonderful aftertaste as though we had just eaten it in Italy, England , or France.

a stand alone blue cheese
By jediVerified Reviewer from Herrin, Il. on 2/23/2007
Pros:
High Quality
Cons:
Gets peppery as it ages
Best Uses:
Place on grilled steaks, Served on melba toast
Bottom Line:

Comments about Saint Agur:

This cheese is very blue veined and soft. Easily spread. Has a very buttery taste and quality. The rind does tend to develope a strong peppery taste if kept for a long period of time.
