Located in: Cheese, France
Named for its producer, St. Andre Creamery located in France, this soft ripened triple cream is an amazingly rich and creamy cheese that is made from fresh cow's milk and enriched with pure cream. St. Andre has a bloomy white edible rind and a soft creamy interior similar to Camembert. Its flavor is rich and buttery due to the addition of sweet cream during the cheese making process. This sinful treat is perfectly paired with a light, fruity rosé.

Comments about Saint Andre:

I've often thought that this cheese would be more consistently good if it was made in wheels only half as high as usual. There's a small window of time when the inside is just slightly crumbly, buttery, and nutty, but the soft, smooth outside layer has not turned to ammonia. If you get this cheese at the perfect time, it's FABULOUS! Underripe, it's ho-hum...overripe, it's cruel! But I'd still say it's worth trying at least once.

Comments about Saint Andre:

I've ordered this cheese once, I'm uncertain about ordering it again. I found it had a bitter flavor or aftertaste. Maybe the one I got was getting overripe or something happened to it.

Due to the price I'm not sure I want to get it again and risk the same thing.

Comments about Saint Andre:

I really like this cheese, it is so creamy and buttery, and spreads so easily on a cracker. I couldn't quit sampling it.....but had to when we ran out of crackers! The rind is edible, but a bit too strong for me. My 17 year old hated it, my 14 year old said it was "ok", which leaves the rest to me! Haven't introduced it to the husband yet, but he is not all that fond of soft cheeses....

Comments about Saint Andre:

I usually like all bloomy cheeses but it depends on quality when bought. The last Cammebert I bought was loaded with ammonia. It was overripe, obviously and hard to see since it was wrapped and enclosed it it's own wooden case. The Saint Andre was perfect although that too can be over or under ripe, also. It's hit or miss sometimes. I'll continue to eat cheese although prices are getting out of hand. That is influencing my purchases.

Comments about Saint Andre:

Really excellent triple cream. Ok, maybe not the best cheese ever, but I can't see anyone who favors brie-like cheeses not being absolutely thrilled with this.

Extraordinarily delicious.

Comments about Saint Andre:

I wanted something simple and light for before dinner with friends, but somthing that could be a good holder with drinks. I served this on a slice of lightly toasted, but still warm bread with glasses of wine and a tray of fruits. It was wonderful.
The cheese does melt quickly and a little goes a long way.

Comments about Saint Andre:

If you want to really impress your friends with an unusual cheese that will expand their idea of what "cheese" can be, this is a good one. Unlike some of the camemberts and bries I've tried, the St. Andre from [...] has never had the obnoxious hints of ammonia that some of those have had. It's spreadable with a nice ripened cream flavor, not bitter or sour. It should please any intrepid guests as well as yourself!

unwanted surprise
By M. from Dallas, Texas on 7/9/2007
Pros:
Creamy, Delicate, Rich, Smooth
Cons:
Bad Flavor, Musky
Best Uses:
on crackers
Describe Yourself:
Foodie, Sensitive tastes
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Saint Andre:

This product looks and sounds delicious, and is indeed very creamy, but has an overwhelming muskiness to it, almost like eau de cow. This ruined my enjoyment of the cheese - I like strong flavors, but not ones that remind me of the barnyard.

igourmet Response: It can seem musky to some - St. Andre can have a polarizing effect but those who love it truly LOVE it.

Wonderful cheese
By LauraVerified Reviewer from Idaho on 2/22/2007
Pros:
Durable, High Quality
Cons:
Portion too small
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Saint Andre:

I love this cheese - so rich I can hardly eat more than a couple oz. in an evening. All the same, I'd rather it be offered in a larger round. 7 oz. seems too small (also too much rind, too little interior). Please consider offering something closer to a 16 oz size, particularly for larger gatherings.
