Located in: Cheese, France
This imported processed cheese has a large following. Those who have tried it can't seem to get enough of it. Straight from France, this spreadable cheese comes in two varieties. One is flavored with walnut and is nice when eaten with pears and other winter fruits, or accompanied by blue cheeses. The other is flavored with kirsch, the clear brandy distilled from cherries and their pits and used in making fondue, cherries jubilee, and black forest cake. Gourmandise is especially popular around the holidays, as it makes a good party spread. Varieties sold separately.

Comments about Gourmandise:

The first time I had this cheese, it was on a cheese platter I ordered from room service at a hotel. Took me a couple years to discover what "that cheese with the walnuts in it" was, but now that I know, I am ecstatic to be able to find it at igourmet.com! The flavour is very nutty and delicious, the texture is smooth and spreadable (except, of course, for the walnuts), and I can't say enough good about it! I love this stuff! I like to serve it before dinner, but I especially like it as a sort of late-night dessert/snack selection of a few bites of two or three of cheeses, some fruit or preserves, and a few nice crackers. Tres chic!

Comments about Gourmandise:

We were surprised at the texture of this cheese... not what we'd describe as "spreadable" but rather more like a pasteurized processed 'let's-go-camping' cheese food. (Think Velveeta.) Very flavorful, however; we had the nut variety and it was a fresh, pure experience. No bitterness, rancidity, etc but overall would have preferred a less "gummy" textured cheese as we have had other processed cheeses that haven't fallen into the Velveeta trap.

Comments about Gourmandise:

One of my favorite cheeses....love it with the Kirsch or Walnuts...but walnuts is best. Cheese picks up a touch of walnut flavor. Elegant with a good wine and chewy bread or deluxe, crisp crackers.

Comments about Gourmandise:

The downside to this cheese is its difficulty to keep around! Like potato chips, you can't eat just one. I fell in love with this cheese the first time I tried it (which was in an upscale hotel). It has a slightly sweet taste which seems to work well with dry wines.

Comments about Gourmandise:

Both varieties surpassed our expectations. The Kirsch cheese is very good with Kirsch drizzled over it as an excellent hor d'oeuvre. The walnut was our favorite, however we will purchase both types again. Excellent!

Comments about Gourmandise:

The Gourmandise I purchased at a cheese market in my area was nothing compared to the delicious cheese I received [...]. The cheese from you was very fresh, it has just the right amount of kirsch . Just to smell it is a pleasure, but the taste is superior to any I have purchased in a store.
