Characterized by a unique, full-bodied flavor, Chaumes is a washed-rind variety. It has a delightfully soft, springy texture and is rich and creamy. Chaumes can be spread and is excellent on crusty French bread. Hailing from the fertile meadows of the Dordogne region of France, Chaumes is a modern French classic.

This product is great on the British crackers that have a somewhat bland taste allowing the flavor of the cheese to come through.
This is a wonderful French cheese and one of my favorites.

Comments about Chaumes:

We discovered this cheese at a 4 star restaurant in Burgundy, as an after dinner choice. Upon spreading and tasting it on a roundel of country French bread, we fell in love with it! I would describe it between a Brie and a Camembert, with a light, somewhat nutty flavor I intend to pay the gastronomical price and order this on line, as we find we crave it now that we are back in the USA. Highly recommended to even the most sophisticated palettes. Judi Dunn

An industriel cheese that makes a good contribution to a cheeseboard full of highly flavored cheese. But start with this one first. Try with pepper jelly.

Comments about Chaumes:

The tangerine cover popped out at us in a [...] supermarket. We couldn't parlez and had no idea what we were buying. Next morning we tore open the paper packets of cheese and saucisson to eat with a crusty bread and strong cup of coffee---Chaumes was the only thing that distracted us, pleasurably, from the amazing seaside view---it is a wonderful cheese [...]

We discovered CHAUME in a small deli shop in Paris many years ago-to have with our before dinner bottle of wine in our hotel room-a romantic tradition. It has remained a favorite for over 25 years and is never disappointing.

By Married to a Frenchman from MA on 3/7/2007

Smooth
Cons:
Bland
Best Uses:
Hor d'oevre

Comments about Chaumes:

This is a general French cheese that is semi creemy but not that flavorful. My husband says this is what someone in France buys cheeply in the market. It is like a munster cheese.
