Located in: Cheese, Germany
Allgäu Emmental (or Allgäuer Emmentaler) is also referred to as Bavarian Swiss Cheese. One of the most famous German cheeses, it is not originally from Allgäu, but from the region of Emmental located in the Swiss canton of Bern. This cheese has been crafted there since the 18th century. In 1821, the "Swiss method" was brought to the Allgäu for the first time by Josef Aurel Stadler.

Made from pure Bavarian milk, it is high in protein with a refined flavor. Our Bavarian Swiss has a rich, yellow color and large eyes. We recommend it sliced for sandwiches; cut in strips for Chef salads; or chunked for party platters.

  • Made from pasteurized cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 7 lb. form of cheese.
  • We cut and wrap this item by the pound.
  • Please contact us if you would like to purchase the whole form.

Comments about Allgau Emmental - Pound Cut:

This is a horse of a different color when it comes to Swiss! A must have for parties, snacks, or grill cheese and ham. No plastic chewy mess, this is delicious, creamy, rich and full of flavor and a completely diffent cheese from those on the grocery store shelves. A staple, must have in the refrigerator.

Comments about Allgau Emmental - Pound Cut:

this is a great cheese...rich "Swiss" flavor, only so much better than the usual over the counter Swiss...melts smooth for sandwiches and fondue...I have been ordering for a few years now and it remains a favorite....consistent in expectations...I like it sliced thin with apple or pear and a whole grain cracker...great nibbles..so good it could spoil your dinner...super with darker beers/ales with enough of its own flavor to stand above the alcohol's richness.
