This cheese is every bit as good as it sounds! Basiron is a creamy-tasting, gouda-style Dutch cheese jazzed up with pesto. Perfectly balanced and extremely addictive, this glitzy cheese "shows off" for Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, or almost any occasion. Its ingredients include pasteurized cow's milk, vegetarian rennet, and pesto (basil and garlic). It has 50% fat in dry matter and is aged approximately 5-6 weeks for a firm, yet youthful texture. The Veldhuyzen family in Holland, whose cheese making tradition dates back to the 1800s, makes a variety of innovative cheeses.

Although Basiron is a show stopper on the cheese board, its festive color is always ready to complement a tray of vegetables or equally colorful cheeses such as red-waxed gouda or edam. For a bright and flavorful dish with a twist of flavors, shred Basiron over gnocchi or pasta smothered in your favorite pasta sauce.

Comments about Basiron Pesto (Gouda with Pesto):

A spectacular cheese and a delightful selection for the table and kitchen.

This cheese is great as an appetizer and was served in this early Summer with Budweiser Beer with natural lime flavor(BL).

I also sliced the cheese and used it in my recipe of chicken cutlets stuffed with salami. The salami and a slice of swiss cheese were folded into the chicken cutlets. The cutlets were topped with the sliced basiron cheese and baked at 400 F for 45 minutes. The melted basiron cheese with the pesto flavor combined with the chicken cutlet wrap is really tasty and enjoyable!

Comments about Basiron Pesto (Gouda with Pesto):

I just love it straight from the package, as a snack in itself. It's flavor is fairly intense, so don't use it with a more delicate-flavored dish as the cheese may overpower it. Tastes very "from-the-garden" fresh, so it works well in a salad.

Comments about Basiron Pesto (Gouda with Pesto):

First, I should mention that I love pesto. People either love or hate basil so their love of this cheese will be based on how they like that taste. I personally can't get enough of it. Love the flavor, love the color. Didn't know this type of cheese existed. However, now that I tried it, I am a fan for life. Unbelievably good taste. Will be ordering and reordering.

I discovered this cheese in Amsterdam two months ago and I love this cheese! It's great by itself and wonderful melted down to sauce consistency in a little olive oil and poured over fettucine. The perfect marriage of pesto and cheese. The color is a "show-stopper." [...]

Comments about Basiron Pesto (Gouda with Pesto):

This is a real find for paninni fans. It also adds color (all natural) to cheese trays. Try it on crackers or fresh crusty bread topped with pine nuts; enjoy it in cheese dips and salads; sprinkle it on hot/cold penne pasta - add sun dried tomatoes and olive oil for a tasty and colorful dish. You can't go wrong with this cheese.

Comments about Basiron Pesto (Gouda with Pesto):

I ordered this for a Super Bowl Party. Everyone loved it and wanted more immediately. We just served it with crackers, but it would be amazing on pasta. Imagine the best pesto you've ever tasted, but in a more substantial form. It had a wax layer that was a little hard to remove, but so well worth it. Now my friends can't wait [...] to order it for themselves!
