Located in:Cheese, Ireland
Ardrahan is a glorious washed-rind, semi-soft cheese from the south of Ireland. It has a creamy, nutty palate similar to a Swiss Appenzeller. As the rind is repeatedly washed in salt water, the cheese takes on a beefy, savory pungency. Ardrahan is made exlcusively by Mary Burns on the Burns family farm in Duhallow - a County Cork town reputed for its clean environment and rich pastures. Ardrahan has won several awards, with judges repeatedly finding it a complex, flavorful, zesty cheese. We concur.

I couldn't get past the nose - we had a cheese-tasting party, and everyone agreed that this had to live in a bag, only taken out to be sliced and immediately put back! I offered the remainder to anyone who liked it, and no one stepped up. It's defintely interesting, and neat to have tasted it, but the scent and the after-taste were *so like ripe feet that it's not going into my basket again.

We had it at a cheese tasting and it was the strongest tasting, but my favorite of the five we tried. Not for the "Kraft Cheese" set.

When writing these reviews, I'm afraid I'm sounding like a cheerleader. Alas those days are long gone ! [...]I originally ordered this cheese as a 'try-out', being an Irish American, I couldn't resist. The flavor is wonderful, even for the most discerning palate. This one is deffinitely a 'keeper'
