Located in: Cheese, Italy
Burrata is a sack of mozzarella filled with buttery cream. It has recently become a "hot" gourmet item in places like New York City and Beverly Hills. Extremely hard to find because of its very short shelf life, burrata must be flown in from Italy the day after it is made then quickly sold to consumers and eaten right away. A rare delicacy from Italy's Puglia region, it is wrapped in asfodelo leaves, which indicate the freshness of the cheese! As long as the outer wrapping stays green, the cheese within is still fresh. Serve burrata like you would Mozzarella di Bufala: paired with fresh tomato, onion, olive oil, cracked black pepper and basil leaves. Cut into burrata and watch its creamy liquid center ooze all over your plate. Enjoy burrata with special company; it is a treasure to be shared.
  • Best enjoyed within seven days of delivery. Due to the short shelf-life of this product, we are not able to offer future-delivery dates or reservations on Burrata.
  • Made from cow's milk.
  • Photo depicts whole 12.5 oz. form of cheese.

Comments about Burrata:

Special and definitely better than regular mozzarella. Some toasted pine nuts along with the Burrata, tomato, basil, etc. were a nice addition.
Could be luxurious on good French toast with a little syrup.

I quickly ran out of Burrata before I could try as many different tastes with it as I wanted! --and I was selfish and did not share it either!

Comments about Burrata:

I served this cheese at a wine and cheese party I hosted. Without exception, every person that tasted it said that is was the most fabulous "mozarella" they had ever tasted. The cheese itself is sublime, and the creamy center adds another level to the complexity of the cheese. Don't ruin it by dressing it up to much. It is perfect alone!

Comments about Burrata:

Burrata is a statement, not just a mozzarella.
it needs to be consumed VERY fresh, so once you get it, eat it.
It's one of those cheeses that requires no company: no bread, no salad, no fruit, just Burrata.
The taste in incomparable, between a sweet, creamy, milk and a soft, salted mozzarella. It's heart is delicious and melts away all sorrows.
The downside is that if you wait too long to eat it, it will become pungently sour, and will discourage you from wanting more!

Comments about Burrata:

Had Burrata in Italy, was excited to see it offered and therefor bought it. Was fairly dissapointed. Nothing like what I expected. Center is NOT buttery, did NOT ooze out and was nothing more than a watery mozzerela. A few more squeeezes through the hand one would not know the difference. Was very dissapointed [...] Would not recommend for the price and for those who have had the real thing.

We opened our buratta, and served it with
crusty bread, diced roma tomato, olive oil,
sea salt, and cracked black pepper.

It made a terrific caprese appetizer, and am
going to have to learn to make my own now.

Comments about Burrata:

After having spent six weeks in the Puglia region of Italy (the heel of the boot), we missed the fresh burrata upon our return to the U.S. We were thrilled to be able to order the real thing from igourmet and feel its price is cheap compared to a return airline ticket to Italy. Do not settle for any other "burrata" if it's not from Puglia. There is just no comparison to the real thing. We eat it the same way we saw Italians throughout Puglia enjoying it, spread on crusty bread as a starter with a nice bottle of wine. Make sure to dip the outside layer into the creamy center.

Comments about Burrata:

I was concerned about ordering such a delicate cheese, and unfortunately my fears were valid. The cheese arrived just on the edge of being too old, and was too large and rich for two people to consume in a single sitting. The next day my husband had another slice and was ill. It had turned the corner overnight.

We love Burrata and will continue to think of it longingly, but will not be ordering it again. The turnaround time just wasn't fast enough.

Enjoyed this cheese very much. Among all the cheese I ordered [...], Burrata was the only one we liked. Everything else was tasteless mass production. Order from NYC?s artisanal cheese center for the real cheese.

love this cheese with heirloom tomatoes

Pros:
Creamy, Delicate, Rich, Smooth
Best Uses:
Hors d'oeuvre
Describe Yourself:

Comments about Burrata:

This is one that needs to be eaten fresh, and
most important, at room temperature to get the proper feel. Also, its practically salt free like ricotta or mozzarella, so serve it with tomatoes and basil, etc but with a nice salty red wine vinaigrette over the tomatoes and that really contrasts the creamy mildness of the cheese. You could even make a bruschetta like topping of the tomatoes.

Recently transplanted to the midwest, we've missed the burrata we ate in great restaurants in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Imagine our surprise to learn they all serve burrata from the same dairy that [...] uses!! Now we can get this creamy, delicious cheese anytime, and it's never tasted fresher!

Cons:
Must Eat Within 2-3 Days
Best Uses:
Hor d'oevre
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Burrata:

I've ordered this product twice; it is delicious. It's stringy and soft like a mozarella or a very young provolone on the outside, and the inside oozes a creamy liquid. Both have a mild, but distinctive flavor. [...] it starts to go downhill after 2-3 days in the fridge. Its a little rich, so it can be difficult to eat without help! :)
