This cheese is definitely worth buying on line - At least in these parts, there is nothing comparable available in the local markets. The only pans I have are "soft" but important: Not locally made (or even US made), and not organic. I would have purchased the organic version, but it was N/A.

The Parmagiano Reggiano I purchased was made in Parma, at several factories. When I was in Parma, I followed the making of the cheese from the beginning with organic milk to the forming, stacking and aging up to 2 years. I keep all the supermarket "paramazan" off my shelves. The real stuff is the best and Thank you, I Gormet for bring me a taste of Northern Italy.

This is the real parmiggiano reggiano you buy in Italy. It's expensive but there is no substitute. We put it grated on pastas and salads, or we eat it in small pieces with fruits (pears are best)

This is one of my favorite cheeses. The cheese is firm and rich. I eat this cheese plain, with pears, melted over spaghetti, and it is absolute heaven when lightly drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar.

We use this parm cheese for pretty much everything. We use it on bread, pasta, rice, snacks, by itself. It has a very wonderful nutty flavor that goes with almost anything. I grate it over salad, veggies and main dishes. Really great cheese.

Besides being a perfect grating cheese, this Reggiano has the soft, yet firm flavorful texture to be enjoyed anytime on its own merit. I've tried them all and this one's the best.

I don't know enough about parmaggiano to tell if this a great example of this variety of cheese. I do know that it works great for me. It even had less rind that had to be discarded. Yes, I get upset if I have to throw away a large chunk of the wedge I bought.
Overall, I can't find any faults in this cheese.

Having lived in Bologna, Italy this is the only Parmigiano I will eat! This is the BEST and only real Parmigiano. Anything else is imitation. And they do serve it grated on pasta in Italy as well. It would ruin the dish to serve anything less. However, never put this or any other cheese on a shellfish dish, that is a big no-no!! As is cappuccino after dinner, but that is another discussion for another time.

This is a spectacular cheese; the only drawback is the price, even when on SALE IT IS COSTLY. I prefer it to my little italian market, but the market price is almost $2.00 less. I know igourmet is expensive, but now I am addicted to this cheese, that is how fabulous it is. My poor little italian market. Oh well. Too bad, so sad. A great cheese is a great cheese.

Of the three pounds ordered, two were the correct weight. The price was right, however, there's too much rind, which really can't be used (though it does add to the weight). Unless it's on sale, it's not a good buy. It is fresher, but at [...] I can get more useable product (less rind).

Not only is the real parmigiano-reggiano far more complex and delicious than anything simply called "parmesan," it's actually lower in sodium as well, which is important to some of us. This cheese has about a third of the sodium of domestic imitators that are neither made as carefully nor aged as long. Save the rinds and use them in soup, risotto, or any long-simmering dish that could benefit from the subtle nuttiness and creamy complexity of this award-winning cheese.
If you have a vacuum-seal food keeper unit at home, reseal the cheese in a vacuum bag after each use and keep it in the fridge and it will virtually last forever, so it can be economical as well.
I just wish that iGourmet would also ship us some scraps with it when we buy. They must get close to a pound of crumbly breakage when cutting up an 80 pound form, and while it wouldn't stay fresh nearly as long (even if vacuum sealed after each use), but would provide an instant way to taste and use some of it without cutting into your pound cut.
And yes, I grate it for use in just about every recipe that calls for parmigiano-reggiano; it tastes better and it saves sodium and what's not to love about that? Occasionally, when the day's dietary requirements allow it, I'll eat some thin slivers of it on hearty crackers. Simple pleasures are still the best.

I have ordered this cheese for several years and given it as a gift. It is the only Parmesan that I will buy due to its terrific flavor and texture.
