Located in: Cheese, Italy
From Italy's Lombardy region comes the most imitated blue cheese in the world. Many cheeses falsely claim to be gorgonzola, but they always leave you singing the blues. Authentic Italian Gorgonzola comes in two varieties; Dolce - meaning sweet; and Mountain - the sharper and firmer version. Dating back to ancient times, this member of the stracchino family is one of the world's classic cheeses.

Almost spreadable, Gorgonzola Dolce is supple and luxurious with an unmistakable tangy creaminess. Its pale white interior is laced with streaks of blue, giving Gorgonzola Dolce a striking appearance to match its piquant flavor. Enjoy Gorgonzola Dolce as a table cheese; spread thickly on a piece of crusty baguette; or as an ingredient in your favorite salad dressing.

Comments about Gorgonzola Dolce:

Even if you don't usually like a "blue cheese" you must give this one a try. Very smooth and creamy yet full of flavor. Great on a cheese plate at the end of a meal served with a full bodied red wine. Also great on a salad with baby greens, pear and candied walnuts!

Delicious, a special treat. Not heavily veined and sharp like older bleus. Delicious as an appetizer with fresh Italian bread. Just returned from Italy and this reminded alot of the Gorg. we had over there.

Comments about Gorgonzola Dolce:

Very good quality product, this isn't the supermarket variety. If you are looking for a blue that isn't going to punch you in the face then you will really appreciate this cheese. Don't think this means it's bland or boring because that it isn't! This is a very smooth lovely cheese with crusty French bread, on a plain water cracker, sprinkled over a salad or with fruit and wine. Whatever your fancy it will be just perfect.

Comments about Gorgonzola Dolce:

I used to be a caterer and now often do large receptions for art openings. This cheese appeals to a broad range of tastes. It speads easily, leads a nice alternative look to a mixed cheese platter, contributes a different taste to a selection of cheeses, and as far as blues go, it is a bit more delicate. Excellent with fruit, like pears, not too overwhelming with pates.

Pros:
Durable, Good Value, High Quality
Best Uses:
Alone on crackers

Very mild Gorgonzola, but still better than what I can locally. Has a good bite, but not great. Recommend the Mountain Gorganzola over this one, but thoroughly enjoyed every piece. Will keep on hand for beginner's.

The best of the bleus
By AnnaburdyVerified Reviewer from Georgia on 2/23/2007
Pros:
Excellent, Versatile
Best Uses:
As appetizer or dessert, Filling for steaks, Pasta or other sauces, Salad dressings
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Gorgonzola Dolce:

This is one of the best and most versatile cheeses I've ever had. Mild enough to eat by itself, it still holds its own with strongly-flavored dishes. As the main flavor component in sauces, it is beyond compare. It is a cheese to keep on hand.

Too Strong
By OathayVerified Reviewer from Old Greenwich, CT on 2/22/2007
Pros:
Creamy, High Quality
Cons:
Too strong
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Gorgonzola Dolce:

I had heard that gorgonzola dolce, being a young gorgonzola, had a milder, sweeter, flavor and was creamier than aged gorgonzola, and thus was good for risottos. This did have a nice creamy texture, but it's flavor was much more intense than any aged gorgonzola I have ever had. Using the amount called for in my risotto recipe resulted in it overpowering the dish.

An Exquisite Cheese - Gorgonzola Dolce
By MSG from Evergreen Colorado on 2/22/2007
Pros:
High Quality
Best Uses:
Antipasti, Pasta sauce
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Comments about Gorgonzola Dolce:

Fresh gorgonzola dolce is often hard to find. This product comes fresh and creamy with a mild, not strong, blue cheese taste. It is wonderful compliment to hard cheeses and meats. It makes a delicious gorgonzola cream sauce on fresh pasta.
