This Norwegian cheese is made from a mixture of cow and goat's milk. It has an unusual, sweet flavor due to the way in which it is processed. The milk is cooked until the sugars in it have caramelized, giving the cheese its distinctive brown color and sweet flavor. The milk is then curded and pressed. The cheese became popular as a skiers' snack and thus the label on the whole cheese is emblazoned with the words “Ski Queen”. It is widely popular among Scandinavians, and children in the United States are drawn to its sweet flavor.

I have a Smoked chicken with goat cheese and pine nuts pasta recipe that is the best dish I have ever had. I always order my Gjetost Cheese from igourmet. I'm a satisfied customer. Try this cheese. Eaten alone, it's an acquired taste, but my pasta recipe is liked by all who have tried it.

I use a special cheese slicer to get uniformly thin slices. It is enjoyed with a glass of Merlot (red) wine.
While visiting in Norway in July, I enjoyed the Tine brand of 100% goat cheese. This cheese comes in one pound packages. The durable plastic wrapper peels down the cylinder of cheese as it is used. The blue plastic lid then covers the cheese when it is put back in the refrigerator. This is an exellent package and very convenient.

Very disappointed in the packaging. I have ordered goat cheese from another supplier-slightly higher cost- but may use that vendor again because packaging was so much better.
