Located in:Cheese, Norway
From the makers of Jarlsberg comes Ridder, the Norwegian word for "Knight." Ridder goes to battle with a creamy, rich, distinctive flavor and is often compared to French cheeses like Port Salut or St. Nectaire. Like those, it is semi-soft with little or no holes. But, unlike its French counterparts, Ridder has an edible washed rind. Considered by some to be the most elite Norwegian cheese, Ridder is an ideal table cheese and pairs well with a light, fruity wine.

We are wine distributors and have wine tastings every Friday. I bought this cheese and the group went crazy for it. I had to dig the label out of the garbage so I could tell them what it was. I have since had requests to keep it on the Friday menu.

This is such a good tasting cheese. It is great on a sandwich or eaten by itself with crackers. Creamy, mild yet flavorful. I had to get it away from my children, because they wanted to polish off the entire pound of cheese at one sitting! The edible rind is great - it imparts just a hint of sharpness.
