Located in: Cheese, Switzerland
This hard, grainy cheese is one of the world's oldest, dating back to 23 A.D. Made high in the Alps in Switzerland's central region, Sbrinz is often compared to Parmigiano Reggiano. Like Reggiano, Sbrinz comes in massive 80 pound wheels and is made from unpasteurized cow's milk. Aged for at least 18 months, this cheese is hard enough to grate. The Swiss enjoy it shaved in paper-thin slices and served as an appetizer with air-dried beef and tomatoes.

I just like to slice this cheese and snack on it. I also use it as I would for any grated cheese such as in salads and one of my favorites as a garnish on soups. The flavor doesnt get lost nor clash.

I'm Swiss and I'm happy to find this cheese here. I have longtime search for this cheese. This cheese you can shave very thin as an appitizier, over cold meat, in salade, everywhere you but cheese in or over. Grated for french onion soup mac'a cheese give an absolut taste everywhere.

Comments about Sbrinz (Hard Mountain Cheese):

Very good cheese. I tried this cheese in Switzerland for the first time two summers ago. I've been looking for an importer for a long time. It really needs to be shipped older. The cheese is supposed to be quite hard. Arrived a little soft for me. Serve it the way the Switz do... ...shaved very thin and with dried cured meats (also shaved). Very Good for an import
