Quark is a German word that simply means "curds". This cow's milk cheese, produced all over Central Europe, is virtually identical to Fromage Blanc, but is whipped before packaging and has a slightly higher fat content. Quark can be eaten like yogurt, blended with fruit or jam. It is also a common ingredient used in filled pastries, savory and sweet sauces, spreads, soufflés, cheesecakes and mousses. Quark is so popular in Germany that it accounts for almost half of that country's total cheese production. The average German eats about 10 lbs. of Quark a year!

I grew up eating Quark almost daily (Germans consume about 50 lbs of this per person per year!). Finally I found this product here - and it is better than its German counterparts! Excellent for potato salad (instead of mayonnaise, much lighter tasting), cheese cake, and of course with bread and some chives sprinkled on top. Works great for dips as well. Thank you, and I will continue to buy this!

Best Uses:
Breakfast

I discovered Quark while living in England. It's tastier than cream cheese for morning bagels or toast, way better. I've been looking for it all over the US. However, in the UK it's possible to get a non-fat version, whereas what's offered here contains high fat content. Unfortunately, that cuts me out, due to doctor's orders to lower cholesterol levels. But for those who don't have to worry about such things, it's a treat.

Quark should be on every Supermarket's shelf. I can not believe that this product is not represented in America's line of every-day dairy products. There is endless opportunity of use for Quark in a kitchen.
