Midnight Moon is a new cheese created by Cypress Grove Chevre of McKinleyville, California. It's a goat's milk cheese that is aged for at least one year. Midnight Moon has a warm, nutty flavor with hints of caramel. This cheese won the NASFT award for "Outstanding New Product" in 2002. I was looking for a snacking cheese and it's not that at all. Although it does taste good grated over pasta instead of Romano.

Maybe it's the aging, but I really enjoyed this. Most goat cheeses are too soft for me...plus they often taste like....GOAT! This offering has a firmer, subtler texture with just a hint of the milky goat essence. Not wrapped in herbs, chocolate powder or cellophane, this is a winner!
