Located in: Cheese
Beemster cheese come from the quiet, canal lined pastures of North Holland, located 20ft below sea level, remarkably reclaimed from the sea in the year 1612. Through the extensive use of dykes, canals, and windmills, this area was transformed into lush pastures, rich in mineral composition, lending an unmistakable terroir to cheeses made in the Beemster polder. The Beemster co-op was established in 1901, and these traditional recipes have led to it earning the highest honor of being the supplier to the Royal Court of the Netherlands.

Best known for their award winning goudas, both young and aged, Beemster has become a world-wide phenomenon, as well as a favorite cheese of both the igourmet.com staff and our customers! It is with great pride that we are able to offer a Beemster Tasting Tour, consisting of four of our favorite Beemster cheeses. We've also included their cute and cuddly Beemster Mouse, along with our signature igourmet.com insulated tote bag. This assortment includes:

  • Beemster Premium 12 Month: A seasonal cheese, this limited availability product is only produced in the summer. The milk taken from the Beemster cows as they eat the Spring's first crop of fresh greass is the creamiest milk of the year. (8 oz)
  • Beemster Classic Extra Aged Gouda: This edible opus magnum has been matured for eighteen months, allowing its body to develop a muted caramel color, matched by an intense flavor with a sweet finish. (8 oz)
  • Beemster X.O. Double Aged Gouda: With this 26-month gouda, we first noticed its delicate, brittle texture. After we tasted it, the flavor of butterscotch permeated the palate, followed by alternating waves of whiskey and pecan. (8 oz)
  • Beemster with Cumin: Spices such as cumin, caraway, and cloves are fixtures in Dutch cuisine, the most well-known cheese being Leyden. Beemster''s version is more aged than traditional Leyden, and with their spectacular milk as a base, the result is better than other commercial spiced cheeses from Holland.(8 oz)
  • Beemster Mouse: This cute little stuffed animal is perfect for decorating your kitchen, or perch on a cabinet so they can watch over your cheese supply.
  • Signature igourmet.com Insulated Tote: Inscribed with the igourmet insignia, this insulated travel bag is perfect for transporting your cheeses safely!

Comments about Beemster Tasting Tour with Tote:

This was a very nice introduction to Beemester Cheeses-they were very diverse-from the mild & creamy Vlasskase to the strong Extra Aged Gouda, both which we throughly enjoyed! The Beemster with Cumin i stongly disliked-but my husband loved-the Beemester with Garlic was liked (this was the replacement for the Grasskaas)and the Beemster with Mustard was too bland & had no distinguishing taste.

The cumin and garlic flavored cheeses were very strong! The mustard flavor was lovely, as were the classic goudas.

Comments about Beemster Tasting Tour with Tote:

The Vlaskaas and Garlic Beemster were gone and thoroughly enjoyed shortly after I set them out. Both full flavored and satisfying. I am savoring the Extra Aged Gouda with its wonderful aroma and immediate flavor burst and interesting crystaline texture. I am still guarding the Cumin Beemster and Graskaas and anticipate another enjoyable encounter. I was recently too quickly through the Amsterdam airport to stop for a purchase and this sampler was a pleasant reward of its own.
