With the cooler weather sweeping in, there comes a change in kitchens across America. Comforting foods, brought on by dipping temperatures, fills the home with enticing, warming aromas. Inspired by our own favorites, we've designed this assortment of our favorite cheeses for winter. From casseroles, to creamy gratins, or a bacon-topped mac n' cheese, this collection will enrich any dish of the season. Please be aware, the Abondance and Appenzeller are aromatic! This assortment includes:
  • Gruyere de Comte: Comté is a handmade, artisan French cheese of the truest type. This Comté is aged for sixth months, and develops a tight-knit texture and satiny body. On the palate, one can detect notes of fruits, hay, and a slightly nutty, smoky flavor gained during the process when the curd is cooked.(8 oz.)
  • Monte Veronese: Skilled artisans hand craft Monte Veronese Latte Interno in Lessinia, the picturesque mountain area above Verona. It is a semi-hard, semi-cooked, white or slightly straw-colored cheese with a scattering of tiny, diffused holes.(8 oz.)
  • Appenzeller: This cheese has a pleasantly smooth texture, but this cheese's true allure is its fruity tang. In fact, Appenzeller pairs extremely well with fresh fruit; it melts nicely also. (8 oz.)
  • Red Leaf Cheddar: Our Red Leaf Cheddar is the result of 150+ years of cheddar making expertise. Soft on the palate, yet tangy, this cheddar is different than English cheddar in subtle ways. It is quite nutty, with a beautifully sweet aftertaste. (8 oz.)
  • igourmet.com Signature Cheese Serving Knife: Specifically crafted for us at igourmet.com, this multi-function cheese knife is the perfect tool to easily slice uniform servings of your favorite cheeses.

Comments about Assortment of Winter Cheeses:

Great set! Only one of the cheeses would be considered bland and still it had some complexity. And you can't beat the sale price. I served it as a cheese plate with the Wild Boar Prosciutto (mild, sweet and not very salty), crusty bread and red wine. It was a perfect light yet hearty meal for a cold winter evening.
