The recipe for Panforte, literally "Strong Bread" in English, dates back to the 13th Century. A Tuscan specialty, Dark Panforte is made from all-natural ingredients like almonds, sugar, candied orange peel and melon, wheat flour, hazelnuts, cocoa, honey, nutmeg and cinnamon. It has a heavy consistency and a chewy, thick texture. Originally a Christmas pastry, Panforte is now enjoyed year round by Italian cuisine enthusiasts around the world. Made by Corsini, the most respected Tuscan pastry company since 1921.

Agree with the other reviewer who mentioned the spices - they really are lovely. Perhaps a little dry for those who aren't familiar with this little Italian treat, but for us it brought back very fond memories.
