Naturally leavened fruit breads have been made throughout Italy since the days of the Roman Empire. According to legend, the sweet yeast bread known as Panettone originated in Milan in the 15th Century. Today, Panettone is eaten throughout the country during holiday and celebration times.

As its popularity has grown through the centuries, legends regarding its origin have developed as well. The most popular story is of a boy who fell in love with the daughter of a baker named Tony. The boy made bread, Pan de Toni, to impress the baker and to win his daughter’s heart. Panettone actually means big or strong bread, referring to the raisins, citron, pine nuts, and anise with which it is enriched.

Our Panettone Incartato is made in Parma by Dispensa Italiana, founded by Renzo Bertolotti in 1867. It contains raisins, orange peel and honey (please note that there are no nuts in this panettone, but it is made in a facility that makes other desserts with nuts). It retains its delicious moist texture for several months and the dramatic packaging, wrapped with typical Italian flair and elegance, makes it an exquisite gift for any special occasion..
  • Please note this is a seasonal item and is only available during the winter holiday.
