The Vosges Haut-Chocolat mission is to create a luxury chocolate experience rooted in a sensory journey of bringing about awareness to indigenous cultures through the exploration of spices, herbs, roots, flowers, fruits, nuts, chocolate and the obscure. To ensure this, Owner/Chocolatier, Katrina Markoff, personally chooses every spice, flower and chocolate that is flown into their Chicago kitchen. The newest flavor from Vosges, the inimitable Mo's Chocolate and Bacon Candy Bar, combines smoky bacon and sweet milk chocolate. Vosges creator Katrina explains the origins of this unique combination: “Crisp, buttery, compulsively irresistible bacon and milk chocolate combination has long been a favorite of mine. I started playing with this combination at the tender age of six while eating chocolate chip pancakes drenched in maple syrup. Beside my chocolate-laden cakes laid three strips of fried bacon, just barely touching a sweet pool of maple syrup. Just a bite of the bacon was too salty and yearned for the sweet kiss of chocolate syrup. In retrospect, perhaps this was a turning point, for on that plate something magical happened: the beginnings of a combination so ethereal and delicious that it would haunt my thoughts until I found the medium to express it--chocolate.” Ingredients: Applewood smoked bacon, Alder smoked salt, and deep milk chocolate. Gluten free. 41% cacao.

Comments about Chocolate and Bacon Candy Bar:

This is really bad, and I mean that. This is taking the bacon craze too far. The bacon is chewy and stays in your mouth long after the chocolate is gone. You are then left with chewy bacon that gets stuck in your teeth. The taste is not good either. Overall, I have to say that I think Vosges in general is overrated. This bar is proof.

Comments about Chocolate and Bacon Candy Bar:

this makes an appreciated and unusual "bread and butter" gift for a host or hostess if you want to get out of the bottle of wine rut. Most reciprients immediately hide it from the other guests.

We ordered these as stocking stuffers for our three bacon-addicted chocoholic daughters. Very unique idea - the bacon flavor kicks in unexpectedly. These were a hit Christmas morning!

A little disappointing
By LouVerified Reviewer from Miami, FL on 12/2/2007
Pros:
Decent chocolate
Cons:
Little distinct flavor
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Chocolate and Bacon Candy Bar:

There was very little bacon flavor in this chocolate. Every once in awhile there'd be a little saltiness and the texture of a crumbled bacon piece but I just couldn't find any smokey bacon flavor. The chocolate itself was quite good.

Unfortunately, this was a disappointment.

Comments about Chocolate and Bacon Candy Bar:

This product was interesting, but most of us felt it needed more bacon. The little tiny pieces of bacon got lost in the overpowering chocolate. It was like eating a funky Crunch bar with a subtle bacon undertone.

I am not typically a chocoholic but this is a wonderful grade of chocolate that partners perfectly with the excellent bacon. It make a wonderful "bread and butter" gift for your host or hostess beyond the usual bottle of wine. Great fun.

Comments about Chocolate and Bacon Candy Bar:

You simply have to try this! Although it sounds like a car crash in the mouth, the depth of flavor works soooo well, and the salt and chocolate is amazing together. Finally, a choc bar I can eat for breakfast! Will definitely send some as gifts this year.
