The origin of the dynasty of the Aviv Bakery and of the Wolf Family lies in the village of Shalib in White Russia. From there, the forefathers left on ship for the land of Israel in 1887, eventually reaching the shores of Jaffa. The family took up residence in Neve Shalom, bordering on the Neve Zedek neighborhood that was established the same year. The name of their bakery was taken from the Hebrew word for spring, the season when the Passover festival occurs. New Aviv's reputation for high quality Matzos, cookies and other baked goods has spread to Jewish communities large and small across the globe. Aviv cookies are available in three flavors:
Halva,
Chocolate Filled, and
Chocolate Chip.
