Germans adopted this recipe and created the finest marzipan in Lubeck using the best Mediterranean almonds, sugar, and the precise roasting temperature. Our Belgian marzipan is made according to the original Lubecker method to create a sweet, pliable mixture shaped in the traditional shapes of apples and oranges. A perfect holiday treat.

When we flipped the box of marzipan over and looked at the list of ingredients, the first item was sorbitol. We had to pitch it. It was a real disappointment, especially because the item description highlights "pure sugar and the finest almonds." This was the only item that we have gotten from igourmet that hasn't lived up to its description.

I bought these as a means of introducing a friend to marzipan. I found them fresh (mandatory), but ultimately they required slicing to make them snackable.
Without the slicing they were just too much for my taste.
This is consistent with my experience with marzipan though - either you get small pieces that are appropriate for nibbling, but often stale; or you get large hunks that are fresh but need to be sliced down so as to not overwhelm.
Meanwhile another friend sampled 2/3 of one that had not been cut down further. When I came back later, I found he liked it enough that he had made off with the 4th one in the package. . .
