In 1861, Andele Hellema began a bakery in the Frisian village of Hallum. In the fertile area of Northern Friesland lived many prosperous farmers who were looking for alternative tastes; something different than just bread. Hellema discovered this market-demand and began to offer them his delicious biscuits.
Currently, the family-business is managed by the 5th generation of the Hellema family. The company has been developed into a modern and flexible company, still maintaining the authentic, traditional flavors that brithed the company decades ago.
The bottom of each spice cookie is pressed into sliced almonds, giving these cookies more crunch (and helping them to stick together when dunked in milk). Gently spiced with cinnamon, clove and nutmeg, these are perfect any time of year, but especially satisfying on a snowy day in front of the fire.

These are wonderful little crisp cookies. Just wish they stayed crisper like when first opened the bag.
