The history of Douwe Egberts starts in 1753, when a husband and wife opened The White Ox, a gourmet shop in the North of Holland. Their offerings focused on coffee, tea and tobacco; products that were imported from the Far East and traded in Amsterdam. Sales grew rapidly and soon Douwe Egberts started a wholesaling and distribution business. They built their first coffee roasting plant in 1919 and began exporting their premium quality coffee in 1930. By 1960, Douwe Egberts accounted for more than half of Dutch coffee exports. Our best seller, Medium Roast, is now available as a 6 pack, which represents great value for all the Douwe Egbert lovers out there.

I read all 32 comments and there was only one negative comment for douwe egberts coffee. I tried this at a restaurant while visiting in San Antonio, TX and asked the server for the name. As soon as I got back home to Idaho I ordered a 6 pack and I can't wait to have another cup!

We first fell in love with this coffee about a year ago but couldn't find it anywhere. This past Christmas my brother sent me a gift from iGourmet and I went to the website and lo! and behold I found Douwe Egbert coffee. I have already ordered it twice since Christmas and I can assure you it won't be the last time. Sooooo good!!!!!

We've used this brand of coffee for years and are thrilled to have found another great U.S. source. The Dutch know how to make a great product. Much better than any specialty coffee shop brews. Use in a regular coffee drip coffee pot for full bodied, never bitter or overly strong taste.

My mother-in-law serves this coffee for special occasions. My husband and I discovered where we can buy it (this website), we drink it whenever we want! It is the best coffee I have ever had. It is so smooth, it actually comforts my stomach. You don't really think of soothing when you think of coffee. It is so satisfying that it alone makes a perfect desert.

This coffee is not the same as what you get in restaurants with the Douwe Egberts coffee stations. I asked the clerk about their coffee and she said they received theirs frozen. It must either be the frozen coffee or the coffee maker. I also had this from a coffee station in a hospital where my husband was recovering from orthopedic surgery. We loved it! But alas, it tastes just like grocery bought coffee. I would say invest in a Douwe Egbert machine if there is such a contraption.

I drink this coffee anytime because of the great taste. This is the only coffee I have ever liked the taste of. I'm 50 and have tried a few. I found this one by accident at a hotel. The price is good. You will spend the same or more at a grocery store for a lesser product. I tell everyone about it.

I've considered myself a connoisseur of coffee for over thirty years, liking what is usually referred to as a bold style of coffee. I was looking forward to tasting this coffee based upon the strong, positive reviews. But I was extremely disappointed with my very first cup and this feeling did not improve with the second and third cup.

I find this coffee to be very bitter. It's not overly acidic, but leaves a harsh taste on the back of the tongue that I don't care for. I finally gave up on it and have been using up the rest of it by blending it in small portions with coffee that I know I like. Given it's price, I didn't have the stomach to just throw it out.

The first time I tasted Douwe Egbert Coffee I ordered it for luncheon on a whim because that is NOT when I usually drink coffee--"only for breakfast" was my motto. I was literally amazed when I tasted it. I was in a 100-year old restaurant on the Intercoastal in my home town in Florida. I JUST HAD to know the name of it!

I am an elderly lady and awaken several times each night. If my throat is dry, usually about 3 a.m., just water does not quench my thirst but Douwe Egbert coffee does and I go right back to sleep in a moment.

Thanks to Douwe Egbert for this treasure.

First tried this coffee at a casino. Found it online [...] Was not the same flavor. After inquiring, found out the casino uses "instant", not ground. Major differences. This one is okay, just not the flavor I wanted.

I first tasted this product in Brussels and was blown away at the full flavor without the bitterness. It was hard to find here in the U.S. and was quite pleased to find it on iGourmet. Have stocked up on it--I use it to make my own blend, as it's pretty robust coffee with Trader Joe's organic decaf coffee and this middle eastern coffee that I found that is laced with cardamon. All this goes into my Briel Mulit-Pro espresso machine for a yummy cup of java.

Great atmosphere attracts, a great cup of coffee keeps you coming back. This is certainly true of this particular coffee. It's sweet aroma and smooth flavor is the perfect compliment to any meal. It compliments any dessert from Creme' Brule to a rich Chocolate layer tort without overpowering the tastes of a particular dish or dessert!
