The flavor does have a rich taste without being bitter. We tried both the Medium and Dark roast and found that both blends have its appropriate time at our gatherings or just for that morning cup.

I tasted this great coffee in a restaurant in Three Rivers, CA the beginning of this year 2009. I asked for the name of the coffee then searched on line buying the Medium Roast from you. However, it just didn't taste the same like that first cup I tasted. I was disappointed needless to say, and decided to keep it rather then send it back. It isn't that bad I've gotten used to it, but I don't think I'll buy it again. I don't know if buying the Dark Roast would be any better making the difference.

My husband and I eat breakfast at this one restaurant all the time because we both love the taste of the coffee. When I found out the brand name, that is when I ordered this coffee. I was very disappointed when I made my first pot of coffee and it didn't taste like the coffee at the restaurant at all. Now, I have not returned it because I didn't want to be bothered by doing something like that. I do still drink the coffee, but do not think will order it again. My grandmother and I went out to T.G.I.F. for a late night out and ordered this delicous coffee with some appetizers. She loved the coffee so much she asked for a refill before could even endulge in the delicous appetizers.(The cup had to of been about 16oz.) I had a sip and loved it. My sister who also came along with us loved it as well. By the end of the evening we were all sharing the large cup of coffee. We had to ask for the name of this and this is how I found out about the delicous cup of coffee. I'd love to order some for her and send it to her in AZ. That cup of coffee made her visit from AZ to CA even more pleasant.

First tasted this brand coffee at a Paula Dean's Buffet. Hubby says "it's the best coffee he's ever tasted in his life". One of the top coffees I have tasted! Alot of depth to the flavor without being bitter. I chose Automatic Drip/Filter for the "Best Uses" category only because of the grind that I had received. If ground differently, it would be just as flavorful using other methods of preparation. Would definitely reorder.

This is the first time that, after drinking a cup and a half of this coffee, that I poured the rest of a pot of coffee down the drain. This stuff is as undrinkable as supermarket canned coffee, and you can get that coffee a lot cheaper. It just goes to show, that just because it comes from Europe doesn't mean that it's good.

I had this coffee at two different restaurants in Maui, but just as another person has commented, this is not the same stuff. What I had at the restaurant was coffee perfection! I was so excited to find a source for Douwe Egberts - we love the commercial application and buy it wherever we can - restaurants, hospital cafeterias etc. But those folks use a liquid concentrate that the public can't buy. As a chef, I've long been a fan of good coffee. My father on the other hand had long dismissed expensive coffee such as starbucks or mail order brands and would constantly drink the blue can stuff for years stating that it didn't get any better. For christmas this year, since I was spending it with them, I ordered him the medium ground coffee (as he wouldn't know what a coffee grinder was let alone how to use one). I made him a cup on christmas morning without telling him what was in it, and he was absolutely speechless, insisting I had a special recipie and had to give it to him. Some old timers say that most French roasted coffee is actually burnt coffee which is pawned off on unknowing customers who want a burnt taste. This coffee is carefully roasted to be dark, but it is not burnt - so you get a very pure, strong flavor. I enjoy blending it with a Starbucks French roast coffee to give more authentic flavor. It takes some time to appreciate the difference in true coffee which is not burnt. It comes packed in an extremely tight packed vacuum brick, pre-ground fine.

To all that are concerned with the difference between what you taste in a commercial establishment with DE coffee and the taste you get at home.... the difference is the commercial establishments casinos, hotels, resturants, etc use the syrup version of theDE coffee not the grinds... it is a liquid instant that is put into a machine and dispersed with hot water at the time they push the button... it does have a more nutty taste than the grind version... so... if you do not get the same great taste at home as you do when you are dining out... that is the reason.... resturants lease the machine that converts the syrup to coffee.... it is better than the grinds you use at home but the home version is still better than any other home brewed coffee on the market today....

My first encounter with Douwe Egberts was in my hotel room at the Crowne Plaza London during a long trip to England. Each day, the maid would place several instant packets of Douwe Egbert (as well as many other luscious English teas, biscuits and sweets)in the butler's pantry. I fell in love immediately with the coffee. Have been looking for it since. Such memories; such fulfilled desires.

First tried your coffee in the White Mountains near Vermont. Excellent coffee but wish it was a bit more reasonable in price. If I could get a larger size at a better price, I would consider purchasing in large quantity.

When I go to a restaurant, I know at once if the coffee is Douwe Eggbert by the taste. The ground coffee that I bought is wonderful but lacking in the taste of the coffee from concentrate served in restaurants. I would buy it again.

I was excited to order the Douwe Egberts coffee. I recognize the smooth taste at just about any hotel/banquet hall/restaurant that serves this coffee. Unfortunatley, the ground version of this coffee does not compare to that served at commercial establishments. I was disappointed to have paid so much for something that tasted nothing like the restaurant version. It was bitter and harsh, not mild and smooth.
