Raclette is not only a sociable way of eating, it is also delicious. Most Raclette Grills are designed to work with a half wheel of cheese. Simply load the cheese into the grill and turn it on. When the cheese begins to melt, you scrape it off and serve the melted cheese on a hot plate with a baked potato, pickled pearl onions, thinly sliced ham, cornichons, baguette, and of course, a glass of white wine. Think of Raclette as a winter barbecue!

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

As part of a French meetup group, we all decided to have a fabulous dinner serving raclette. The half wheel served 22 people and I had few slices left. The cheese was so tasty, everybody loved and enjoyed it. It's one of my favorite melting cheese in the whole world!

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

This cheese is not bad for the price but it lacks the full flavor of the original swiss raclette cheese from Valais. What you get with the french pateurized raclette is consistency in melting. The unpasteurized swiss may melt differently from one wheel to the other, (oiler, dryer, creamier) but that's the price to pay for some very complex flavors.

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

This Raclette cheese is what you get in Europe. We used to live next to the French and Swiss border and this was one of our favorites if you look at the price as well. The Swiss Rawmilk is better, but more expensive as well. So, if you like Raclette cheese or you want to try, this is what is giving you good impressions for a reasonable price. Drinks with it are either Whitewine or Tea, no sparkling carbonated drinks! Eat Garlic, Onions, cutted Pickles, Peperoni, Bacon, Mushrooms, Spices like Paprika, Pepper, Salt etc. with it. Boil potatoes and poor the cheese over the potatoes. You should use the appropriate Raclette stove and plan enough time - no American style in and out fastfood ;-).

We loved this cheese and I loved the price. I ordered the half wheel and compared to other places I could get it for a pound it was very resonable. I will definately buy a whole round next time. It is hard to find in Texas! The flavor and texture is just what I remembered eating in Europe. Thanks!

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

Raclette should be in everyone's back up plans. It keeps a long time in your refrigerator and can be used for a quick dinner served with salad and prepared in no time. It is also a great meal to serve for large party dinners. Everyone eats at their own pace as much or as little as they want. Great served with salad and cornichons and boiled red/new potatoes. Be sure to have pepper, garlic powder and nutmeg available to add as condiments.

This cheese is the best. The French Raclette is so much better than the Swiss version. You can't get it just anywhere. Thank goodness igourmet.com has the best raclette you can buy. You can also cut this into smaller pieces and use it with the conventional Raclette oven with the individual pans.

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

I have been purchasing this raclette cheese from igourmet.com for several years now. The cheese is excellent and you cannot beat the price. [...]this cheese is the most flavorful raclette cheese I've tasted. The others that I've paid $15/pound don't compare - they were much more bland. I definitely recommend purchasing this cheese through igourmet!

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

As a cheese connaissur, originally from the 'Emmental', I think this Livradoux is an excellent choice. Very tasty, flavorful, yes smelly when you cut it, but that's what I love... Also an excellnt choice for 'Chaes-Schnitte', toast slices of whole wheat bread first, then put a 1/4 inch thick slice of Livradoux on top and put it back into the toaster oven... Yummy! I normally buy a half wheel, cut it up in 1/2 pound portions, vacuum and freeze every portion until consumption. You can not go wrong with this cheese from the French Alps!

The ONLY cheese for raclette'ing. The cheese's smell will make you think you're standing in a cow paddy. If the rind is too strong, remove and discard. The cheese mellows when melted. If you have leftovers, use as you would gruyere with potatoes or in savory tarts.

Comments about French Raclette - Half Wheel:

My wife is Alsatian (the Alsace region of France) and because of this I was first exposed to the concept of Raclette. I say that it is a friendly dish because there are so many plates of good stuff spread around the table that you are constantly passing things to your neighbor. This is a great way to share an evening with good friends. Be sure to have plenty of good white wine for the evening and end with schnapps
