These light-as-air crisps come to us from Victoria, Australia. We fell in love with them at first bite. They are small, pressed crackers with a waffle-like imprint on their surface. Because they are so thin, they are perfect with pates, cheeses, dips, and antipasti. You can enjoy the full flavor of your topping without getting bogged down with cracker. We offer them in five varieties: Original, Tuscan, Organic, Seasame & Poppyseed, Provencal and Australiana. The Provencal variety is kissed with the flavor of rosemary and thyme, and the Original is pleasingly crispy without any strong flavors to mingle with your cheese. The Tuscan has basil, sundried tomato, poppyseeds, garlic, and pepper flavor. Australiana is their latest creation, featuring lemon myrtle and Australian bush tomato, which are flavors unique to Australia.

Comments about Australian Water Wheels:

All of the varieties of Australian Water Wheel crackers are very good, but I particularly like the Blue Poppy and Rye variety. The downside to these is that they are very delicate, and break quite easily. But they are mild enough to let anything you put on them really "shine." I love them by themselves, too, but especially like them with cheese, artichoke spreads, and preserves. You'll find many uses for them, I'm sure -- I have!

Comments about Australian Water Wheels:

I'm am writing about the "original" flavor. These crackers are light and don't have much of a flavor of their own, which makes them perfect for blue cheese. They are crisp, and let the cheese's flavor take the lead. They also hold up well. I have had the same package for about 10 days and they are still crisp. The only downside is they are a tad fragile, but not excessively. Definitely recommended for use with blue cheese.

Comments about Australian Water Wheels:

A friend from New Zealand introduced me to these, and I have hardly used any other crackers since. They are so good that I find myself eating handfuls of them when I have cheese, without putting cheese on them! However, they do make an especially nice accompaniment to goat and blue cheeses. I cannot say enough good things about these delicious crackers.

My husband and I tried both the Provencal and the Tuscan varieties, and loved them! They had a very subtle flavor that complemented our salumi and cheese perfectly. I loved the texture, as I do not care for a heavy cracker. We will definitely buy these crackers again!

Comments about Australian Water Wheels:

I've searched high and low for these great little crackers after first picking them up at the [...] in Napa, CA and was thrilled to find them here for the same price. They definitely are delicate in taste and "construction", but they are a terrific accompaniment for cheese because they don't overpower or steal center stage. I find myself snacking on them unadorned, even though they don't have a distinctive taste. I think it's the wafer-like texture.

Comments about Australian Water Wheels:

If there was an award for "Best Supporting" for Cheese, these crackers would have to be them. Have had the Original and Provencal (would like to try the others when available) and both work well with most any type of cheese or spread. These are NOT stand-alone snack crackers, they are definitely to be used for support of cheese, etc. Lightly and delicately flavored they let the star of the hors d'oeuvre to shine.

It's all about the Cheese...
By LizzyBeeVerified Reviewer from Gulfport, Mississippi on 4/1/2007

Comments about Australian Water Wheels:

There are a lot of delicious crackers at your local grocery store. But sometimes it's not about the cracker... it's all about the cheese. This is the perfect little crisp to top with a fabulous cheese. It has a waffle texture with a delicate flakiness. Every time we place an [...] order, we buy these. If I have one complaint about them, it's that a few are broken but who cares whether the cheese is on the top or the bottom? Put some of the broken pieces on a perfect slice of cheese. Still yummy.
