With over 500 varieties grown worldwide, watermelons have come a long way from their humble beginnings. Native to Africa, the watermelon was cultivated in Ancient Egypt as far back as 2400 BC. Named after its massive water content (up to 90%), watermelons remain the fruit of choice during steamy summers and its refreshing qualites are always welcome.

A uniquely southern favorite has been the pickled watermelon rind. This wonderful item is at once crunchy and moist, tart and sweet. Pickled to perfection, Prissy's Watermelon Rinds make an unusual addition to most appetizers and salads.

Comments about Pickled Watermelon Rinds:

These were okay. But they aren't even close to my Grandmother's watermelon pickles. The sad fact is I am searching for the impossible. A watermelon pickle that can hold its own against Gramma's. On thier own though, these were good pickles.
