Produced in the Ararat Valley of Armenia, Preserved Black Walnuts are created in a traditional manner, with growing practices that reflect a long-standing respect for the earth. The first step in creating these walnut preserves is when fresh baby walnuts are picked green from the tree before they have a chance to age or grow tough. Cured and then pickled in a sugar solution, these walnuts are completely edible with the shells. Used by five-star restaurants as a garnish for pate, game dishes and foie gras, we here at igourmet.com find them to add a wonderful molasses-like sweetness to tangy blue cheeses and aged goat's milk chevres.

Comments about Preserved Black Walnuts:

Don't be fooled by the description as "pickled" because these are sweet. The flavor is really surprising. Someone figured out how to do something completely different and amazingly good with walnuts. I have been eating more walnuts for health because they lower cholesterol, but I find them boring. These are so good, I would eat them healthy or not!

Comments about Preserved Black Walnuts:

Never had these before - never even heard of these before to be honest! I really enjoy them with blue cheese. The sweetness of the syrup helps with the saltiness of the blue cheese and the walnut shells add a nice crunch to the creaminess of the cheese. They look intimidating, but they're a lot of fun to eat!
