Towards the end of the 19th Century, the head of Agam Hagalil family settled in Israel in the colony of Kinneret, which is situated at the foot of the Sea of Galilee. In 1908, a thriving family farm was founded. The farm specializes in growing cattle for meat and dairy products, as well as grain and fruit plantations of lemon, mango, banana, dates, and cumquats.

Cumquats originated in Southeast Asia, but are now grown throughout the world. It was originally considered a citrus, but has now been assigned a genus of its own. (Fortunella) because of the simpler structure of its fruit.

Kumquats, cumquats, kinkin, or chin kan, whatever you call them, they are pretty little fruits. They are the size of a large grape. The rind is thin, sweet, and edible, while the flesh is somewhat tart. Candied cumquats are very popular in China, and loved by gourmands around the world. Their fascinating flavor makes them the perfect accompaniment to lamb, poultry, and especially duck. Try them in breads and cakes, topped over ice cream or custards - or just straight out of the jar.
