Located in: From the Garden, Fruit and Preserves
Rosehips (fruits of the rose) have been eaten as fruit in Europe and Asia and by Native Americans for centuries. These fruits are high in Vitamin C. During World War II, British school children were given a sweet rosehip syrup made by boiling the perfumed fruits in a mixture of sugar and water. Rosehips produce a deliciously sweet jam with a slight tang and a beautiful red-orange color. The flavors are somewhat reminiscent (but not as sweet) of quality peach jelly, with a tart balance.

Comments about Bavarian Rosehip Jam:

This is just about the best thing I ever tried site untasted. When I received it and tried it, I immediately used it with variety of sharp cheeses and toasts. Tried it with just butter. Used in to glaze chicken breast. I love this stuff. It is slightly tart and sweet. Has the consistency of Apple butter. I a nice dark red and it just makes me happy when I taste it. I liked it so much I ordered two more jars!

I tried making my first scones. This jam, and the clotted cream made it very enjoyable. Very nice balance between sweet and tart.

This has the look and texture of catsup, which is very disconcerting when spread on toast.

This is the brand I always bought in Germany; texture and flavor always consistent in quality. Children find many ways to enjoy beyond simply spreading on bread or rolls
