It took us a while to find a signature cheddar that could live up to igourmet's standards, but while visiting the English countryside, we discovered a worthy candidate. This aptly named drum-shaped delight from Dorset sets a new standard for cheddar excellence. Perfectly aged, hand-dipped in a black wax and packaged in a decorative box, Dorset Drum makes an excellent gift. Exceptionally sweet and tangy, it tastes nothing like any mass-produced cheddar you have ever sampled. This quality product does come with a price, however. It is one of the most expensive cheddars for sale in America.

My Gift's Recipient said it was very thoughtful and appreciated, but I live in Indiana and she lives in Washington, DC. During my visit, I learned that she loved gourmet cheese, a "guilty pleasure", so that's why I made this purchase. I did not get additional feedback, so I simply assume that it was enjoyed and that I made a good choice on a limited budget!

As is the case for a lot of good cheese, let it sit out of the fridge for a few hours. When you go to eat it, you can serve it as an hors d'oeuvre by cutting the top of the wax off and scooping it out with a spoon. Very rich, delicious classic English Cheddar. Save the top of the wax and you an reseal it up. I also added some of this to a couple amazing grilled cheese sandwiches. Cheers.

To my taste this is the best of the Farmhouse Cheddars. Has a real character to it and it sets itself apart from the others. Well worth the price. It is also nice for Hors doeuvre served right out of the waxed drum.

My last order of this product - received a couple weeks ago - lacked the "bite" or degree of sharpness I have come to expect. This batch was not much better than I could expect from similar products found on the grocery store shelves. Was quite disappointed, and would hesitate to recomment it to others.

This aged cheddar is right on target for my taste. Cutting away the wax it looked great with very little waste if any. The flavor is very, very strong - it's a wonderful strong cheddar flavor. It is rich, you can eat less for the same effect with this one.

As a Ex Pat Brit living in Arizona there is a shortage of good cheddar around here so to find a cheese "strong enough to make your teeth itch"
was fantastic..Highly recommended.
