The cultivation of olive trees in the Salento district goes back to the 7th century. In the reign of Emperor Augustus, the cultivation of olive trees was the primary job of the people of Salento. In this pleasant place called Lizzanello, the Calogiuri family dedicated themselves to olives and oil for generations (since 1825). Gianni Calogiuri, is the latest generation of the Calogiuri family. Respectful of family traditions, in the month of November, their crusher cold crushes the olives with care and extracts the oil with the method of "Affiorato" (surfacing).

We carry six infused extra virgin olive oils from Gianni Calogiuri:

  • Lemon: This oil is excellent to season green salads and fish.
  • Rosemary: This oil is suitable to aromatize roasted meats and boiled meats.
  • Garlic: This oil is great for seasoning bruschetta, fish, and shellfish.
  • Chili: This oil gives flavor to sauces, seasons meat, pasta, or try drizzled on cheese.
Varieties sold separately.

Comments about Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil:

I've tried the lemon and orange flavors. They need an extra grating of orange or lemon peel. I did not think this product had that rich very distinct extra virgin olive oil taste.

Comments about Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil:

I use the orange flavored oil on salmon fillets before cooking. Drizzle a little on top and it gives a fresh whimsical kick to broiled or baked salmon.

It is also good to use for the olive oil in a Caesar salad dresing. It creates a new flavor level.

Comments about Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil:

I have tried different lemon oils and yours has a wonderful taste of lemon. It does not take as much to get the taste I want. I use it on nearly everything but especially on roasted veggies before I roast them, mixed with Blue Cheese dresssing to give it another depth of flavor, to saute meats(mixed with butter), cooking seafood, and to lightly pour over salads and pasta. Please keep in stock.

Comments about Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil:

I enjoyed the light, fresh flavors of each of the herbs, basil, lemon, orange, rosemary, garlic, and oregano. The infused extra virgin olive oils are strong enough to taste the difference, light enough not to change the flavor of the main dish served. The bottles are attractive too.
