Flaxseed may be on everyone's lips—and in everyone's cereal—but this new darling of the plant world has been around for more than 4,000 years, known even in the days of Hippocrates for its healthful benefits. As flax gained popularity for its industrial uses, however, its popularity as a food product waned, but it never lost its nutritional value. Today, flax is experiencing a renaissance among nutritionists, the health conscious public, food processors, and chefs alike. Flaxseed is very high in omega-3 essential fatty acids. It's the omega 3s—"good" fats—which researchers are looking at in terms of their possible effects on lowering cholesterol, stabilizing blood sugar, lowering the risks of certain cancers and reducing inflammation.

Laxmi's Delights started in an Indian-American kitchen across the Bay from San Francisco by Laxmi Hiremath. She uses the finest natural ingredients and incorporates them into her own special recipes, made in small batches, by hand - all prepared with no preservatives, chemicals or artificial flavors. igourmet.com is happy to carry two of Laxmi's organic flaxseed spreads, one savory and one lemony, to delight your palate. These flaxseed spreads began as nutritious, delicious alternatives to peanut butter for Laxmi's children. Spread them on bread or crackers, or on grilled meat or fish. These unique spreads can also be thinned with yogurt or buttermilk for a delicious dip or dressing. Enjoy!

Three varieties, sold separately are: Organic Savory Flaxseed Spread with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Organic Lemony Flaxseed Spread with Ginger and Honey.

These Spreads are very versatile: smear on grilled meats, chicken, roasted vegetables, toast or sandwiches. The ginger-honey flavor is outrageously delicious on fish!

I was impressed with the orange date flavor's smooth texture. It was sweet from the dates, with a bright citrus flavor that made it great for bagels in the morning. There's a mild curry flavor in the background, which really gives it a savory snap.

Sun-Dried Tomato... No Thanks!
By G from VA on 11/26/2007
Cons:
Bad Flavor
Describe Yourself:
Chef
Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

This product was very pungent and took over whatever food I put it on. I was concerned that it was actually sour based on how it tasted. I like very exotic, unique flavors; but this product missed the mark. I even tried mixing it in with cream cheese and as a spread on a variety of items (as advertised!!), but I always had the same reaction. Steer clear of this one...
