This hot pepper spice, long famous in Portugal, is now picking up fans in other parts of the world. Its flavor is intense, authentic and unique, yet it does not set your mouth on fire. Use it to add heat to shrimp, chicken, pork, or anything else you want to spice up. The Portuguese are so enamored with Piri-Piri that they use it in most of their cooking. If you have ever eaten at a Portuguese restaurant, you have probably enjoyed Piri-Piri without even knowing it.
  • Heat rating: 1 out of 10 (for comparison, tabasco gets a 3.)

LOVE the stuff (Piri-Piri) and this seems to be the only place that regularly has it. Have indoctrinated my family and friends so it goes fast.

Thanks for carrying such a great assortment of foods.

Comments about Piri-Piri Hot Sauce:

I lived in Rio de Janeiro Brazil for some five years, and was a seafood chef in a restaurant in the Copacacabana area of this city. Piri-Piri sauce was a "staple" on virtually every restaurant table in the city ... the Portuguese brought it not only to Brazil, but to Africa as well, and I am glad that it is now available here in the U.S. It is made from an extract of the African "Bird's Eye" Pepper (Piri-Piri) that the Portuguese explorers brought back to Lisbon in the 14th century ... it is hot .. but more flavorful than our "Tabasco" sauce ... enjoy!

As I just spent 3 weeks in Lisbon and became very attached to Piri Piri sauce I was happy to find it at home. It was like being back in Portugal!
