Originally founded in 1848, the Herzog family winery was renowned as the royal wine supplier to the emperor of the Austro-Hungarian empire, Emperor Franz Joseph, eventually earning Phillip Herzog (1843-1918) the royal title of Baron. Baron Herzog kosher wines are the result of a tireless commitment to quality and constant supervision from grape harvest to bottling. The latest version of the winery was founded in 1984 and has since received numerous reviews with high ratings in the Wine Spectator, Wine & Spirits as well as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. These wines have also won over 400 gold medals and several hundred silver medals in prestigious wine competitions such as the California State Fair and the Tasters Guild.
Tasting notes:
With aromas of blackberry and mild oak, this is a full-bodied, rich wine of unmistakable depth and elegance. Layers of berry, currant, and anise flavors linger on the finish.
We drank this with a home made pizza
with fresh mozzerella and roast peppers
with sauteed arugala and garlic and olive oil
its was a perfect balance and a memorable meal
It would also pair well with any pasta tomato dish with lots of garlic like a baked ziti
