The South may be better known for Pimento Cheese than highfalutin gourmet cheese, but this sampler is ready to change that! Included are four artisan cheeses direct from the American South. Each cheese packs a punch of flavor that's sure to liven up any get-together, appetizer tray, or weekend cookout. This assortment includes:
- Georgia: Asher Blue: The cheese makers at Sweet Grass Dairy named this cheese after their middle child, and according to the Wehners, this cheese is certainly mischievous enough in the production process to be named after Asher! However, when this cheese behaves the result is anything but trouble. The dense, creamy paste has the characteristic blue veins producing a rich, robust flavor. (8 oz)
- Virginia: Grayson: Surface ripened with a reddish-orange rind gives this cheese its characteristically strong smell, as well as a heavenly taste. Reminiscent of the aromatic Italian Taleggio or French Livarot, but with Meadow Creek Dairy's rich Jersey milk. (8 oz)
- Texas: Montasio Festivo: Bold and assertive with a nutty tinge, the depth of flavor in this cheese is remarkable. Montasio Festivo is rubbed with an ancho chile/olive oil paste to form a thin, dark-red rind, whilst also lending the cheese a spicy aroma. (8 oz)
- Georgia: Thomasville Tomme: This unpasteurized cow's milk cheese has a golden yellow color and mellow, buttery flavor. As a snack or part of the dessert course, it simply melts in your mouth. (8 oz)
